Paris trip 2009 |
|
Paris The French Section offered a new study abroad opportunity in Paris during summer 2009. The Paris Study Abroad 2009 Program, which took place May 12-27, was established and implemented by Virginia R. Donovan (Lecturer of French). The trip attracted both students and community participants as a travel experience, and a 3-credit course focusing on the history of Paris, FR375, was also associated with the trip. The travelers experienced life in Paris much like the Parisians do, as the participants stayed in furnished apartments in the heart of the 1st district in central Paris, rather than in hotels or hostels. To create an authentic experience of daily life in Paris, they often shopped for food in grocery stores and prepared their meals in fully-equipped kitchens. On a daily basis, the group either walked to nearby sites or traveled on Paris’s famous underground subway, the Métro, and visited Paris monuments and museums, including the Louvre, Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc of Triumph, and the Beaubourg Center. The highlight of the program was a day trip on the TGV, France’s high-speed train system, to the city of Tours. From there, students traveled by rented motor coach and experienced first-hand four of France’s stunning medieval chateaux. Students were enthusiastic about the entire experience: some did not want to leave, and several said they wanted to participate in the Paris program again in 2010. |
