General information on awards
Incoming or
potential students: be sure to check the Buschek Award (toward
the top of this page) and Liedloff award (at the bottom of the page).
Both are substantial awards for incoming students, renewable for four
years. The Liedloff award is available to German majors, the Buschek
for any foreign language major.

Mary
Eleanor Buschek Awards for Foreign Languages & Literatures
Study
This
annual grant of $1000 to support students pursuing foreign language
majors at SIUC is available to incoming full-time undergraduate students,
and
may be renewable
for up to three consecutive years providing all criteria are met. Transfer
students are also eligible.
Mary
Eleanor Buschek Travel Award for Foreign Language Study
Approximately
$2000 per year may be available for student travel awards
(e.g., study abroad), to be divided among Foreign Languages and Literatures
majors.
Marie-Jose
Southworth Award for Achievement in Foreign Languages and Literatures
Requirements: SIUC
student currently enrolled in any SIUC sponsored foreign language offered
by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. The student must
have completed at least two semesters in a foreign language at SIUC having
demonstrated outstanding achievement in foreign language study beyond
the intermediate level and have an overall 3.0 GPA or better. The award
ranges from $300-$400.

for Classics students
Classics laureate
This award is given
each year to the most meritorious graduate in Classics each year, as
determined by
the
Classics faculty. No application is necessary. The award normally consists of a book selected by the faculty.

Prix
d'Excellence
Requirements: Students
must have completed French 320 with an A or have completed French 320
and have a 3.5 GPA or better in French courses taken at SIUC. They must
have made outstanding progress in all skills in French courses taken
at SIUC, been actively involved in French Table and in the French Club
and shown a genuine interest in French language, culture, and literature. No
application.
Deadline: January 31.
Type of Award: Literary gift.
Prix
Mallarme in French Studies
Requirements: Student
must be a graduating senior with a French major and show exceptional
appreciation of French literary values. No application.
Deadline: January 31.
Type of Award: literary gift.
Award
for students of German
Helmut and Mary Liedloff Award for German Majors
Requirements: Incoming
student (i.e., junior college transfers as well as incoming freshmen)
with declared German Studies or FLIT-German first major. Candidates should be academically strong
and show commitment to German activities at SIUC. Awards may be renewable
for up to two consecutive years providing all criteria are met.
Note: currently enrolled SIUC students may also be eligible
for awards, subject to availability.
